“The fix was still present”

LeVar Burton addressed hosting controversies with Danger! this week. The Scripps National Spelling Bee happens, and the reading rainbow the host is part of the festivities. In a conversation with The ringthey asked Burton about the set Danger! situation. Usually, he is very measured in his comments about the hiring of Mike Richards and the resulting fallout. That has not changed here. Although the star trek the actor would point out that “the fix was in place.” Most observers of the situation would agree that Richards was not entirely honest during the process. Still, Burton wouldn’t change the process. You can read what he had to say in the comments below.

“I understand that feeling. I get some of those feelings,” Burton began. “Actually, it wasn’t really a competition to find a new host. Because the fix was still there. It was only the scandal that forced Sony Pictures Television to go in a different direction. In fact, they tried to keep it I mean I don’t need to rehash the chain of events It really wasn’t what they said it was.

“And so my conclusion is that I got what I asked for: I got a tryout, I got a chance to be the guest host. And my assumption was that it was a land of level playing field and that they were really looking for a permanent solution,” he added. “And I guess eventually they did. But the way they got there was very unpleasant and disgusted me. So I’m glad I didn’t get that job.”

Trevor Noah actually spoke to the reading rainbow host on his trial experience for the game show. Burton actually offered similar sentiments there.

“What’s crazy is when you aim for something, you know, they say be careful what you wish for, because what I found out was that wasn’t what I wanted after all,” Burton said. “What I wanted was to compete. I mean, I wanted the job, right, but then when I didn’t get it, it was, well, okay, what’s next? And, therefore, the opportunities that have come my way because I didn’t get that gig, I couldn’t have imagined. If you had given me a pen and paper and says, well, what do you really want this to look like? If it doesn’t understand Danger! I wouldn’t have been so generous with myself.”

The star added, “I never thought of hosting another game show outside of Danger! But now they’ve gone in a different direction with their show, which is their right, and now I’m thinking, well, that makes sense, let me see what I can do. So we’re trying to figure out what would be the right game show for LeVar Burton.”
