Reboot of the developing ’90s sitcom Smart Guy

Smart Guy frontman Tahj Mowry confirms that a reboot of his hit ’90s sitcom is officially in development and hopes the original cast will return.

The Disney sitcom of the 90s Smart guy receives a reboot under development. While the sitcom was produced by Disney, it first aired on Warner Bros. from 1997 to 1999. Tahj Mowry, brother of Sister, sister Tia and Tamera Mowry, starred in Smart guy like TJ Henderson, a 10-year-old eccentric genius who skipped grades from grade school to high school. The series also starred John Marshall Jones, Jason Weaver, Essence Atkins, and Omar Gooding.

Smart guy star Mowry confirmed to AND that there is a reboot under development. Mowry explained that he was in the very early stages of planning and had met the creative team to discuss it via Zoom. Mowry hopes the reboot will appeal to his original fans while adding something “fresh and new” to the beloved series. As for the cast, Mowry wants the entire original cast to return, but he can’t guarantee it. He has strongly hinted that he will return to the lead role of TJ Henderson and that the series will now focus on how TJ managed to navigate the world as an adult.

“There’s been a lot of Zoom meetings and talking about it, so we’re having the ball. It’s just a matter of time and timing, but we have the ability to do it. We have a writer, and I thinks like I’ve come up with a really new take on how we can bring this back with the whole cast and something fresh and new, but also something that diehard fans will always have that nostalgic feel for. “

Mowry revealed in his quote that a writer joined this creative team. Additionally, he shared that he introduced the reboot to networks and streaming platforms and found a “possible home” for it. The series aired episodes on The WB, Disney Channel, BET, and MTV2, so the Smart guy the reboot could end on one of those channels’ parent networks, HBO Max, Disney +, or Paramount +. For now, viewers can catch up with the original Smart guy series by broadcasting it on Disney +.
