TELFORD, SHROPSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM, March 15, 2022 / — Mukudu Publishing, the publishing arm of Mukudu Ltd, is pleased to announce the release of the ‘Moodle Plugin Development By Example’ online course designed to teach PHP developers a comprehensive introduction to plugin development for the Moodle virtual learning environment, arguably the most widely used online learning platform in the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a sudden widening in the adoption of e-learning for the education and training sectors and is expected to persist post-pandemic in many parts of the world. Even before the pandemic, research published by predicted that the online education and training sector is expected to reach US$350 billion by 2025. While the sector is likely to be dominated by the United States and China, growth will be global, particularly in developing countries. With this, the demand for customizations and integrations of platforms and developers to implement the solutions can be expected to explode.

Benjamin Ellis, Managing Director of Mukudu, explains that he expects Moodle’s open source model to ensure that it remains one of the leading environments. The 12-hour, 12-lesson course will allow PHP developers to take advantage of this expected growth. Additionally, since developer compensation varies around the world, developers in “developing” countries can claim regional discounts, with sub-Saharan developers enjoying a discount of almost 70%.

According to Ellis, outside of academic institutions, the general shortage of experienced Moodle developers means they can expect to be paid more than standard PHP developers, sometimes up to 30% more.
