Senior Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir’s popular talk show was taken off the air following his remarks on establishing the country.

Mir himself broke the news saying he expected the ban. He did not say anything that such a ban was not new to him as he had also been banned twice in the past.

On Saturday, Mir attacked the country’s establishment claiming that the latter wanted the media to broadcast a story in support of friendship with rival India.

“You [establishment] say your tanks have rusted and you want a friendship with India, when we don’t help you build the new story of friendship with India, you call the media not to help you ”, can we hear the top reporter in a video that goes viral on social media.

His statement came after three unidentified men assaulted a prominent Pakistani journalist, Asad Ali Toor, after breaking into his apartment, according to the journalist, his lawyer and the police.

Hamid Mir survived an assassination attempt in the past.

Several journalists have come forward to show their solidarity with Hamid Mir. Asma Sherazi, the host of a TV talk show, said the channel’s management needed to clarify its position.

Owais Mangalwala highlighted the reason for the ban. He said Hamid Mir’s hard-hitting comment at a recent rally in support of journalist Asad Toor raised many eyebrows.

The management of the channel, where Hamid was employed for more than a decade, confirmed to the media that presenter Hamid Mir would not be able to host “Capital Talk” indefinitely.

According to Geo Administration sources, Hamid Mir was sent on leave for a few days.
