The books change from year to year. If at the beginning it is still very simple picture books , children's books can contain significantly longer stories for 5-year-olds . With particularly eager children, the first attempts at reading can be an issue during this time. In general, interest in 5-year-olds often shifts to non-fiction books on topics that concern them at the moment.

Nonetheless, every child develops at their own pace. Therefore, parents should be careful not to bet on more challenging sequel stories too soon. An overwhelmed child can quickly lose interest in books.

Text : The times of very simple picture books with very little text are of course long gone. The books now consist of a lot of text with many funny , exciting or instructive stories .
Image : Nevertheless, images should not be missing entirely. One or the other illustration in between can bring the story to life. In non-fiction books , the corresponding pictures are a fixed part anyway.
Length : Especially when it comes to reading aloud, the stories and the books can get a little longer here. In the best case scenario, the children will be interested in longer sequels . This also has the advantage for parents that they do not have to read the same short story every night.
Topics : Many familiar topics such as various animal stories remain relevant here. However, they are often expanded with one or the other deeper meaning such as friendships and relationships . Non-fiction books on all conceivable topics simultaneously provide huge loads of new knowledge for your 5-year-olds.
